Blade of Grass
A solitary place it was..
Miles and miles away from
any kind of life…
Came there I, after crossing
seven seas and five hills.
I stood there awhile gazing;
at the shimmering blade of grass.
It moved zig-zag like the
ripples of a mighty river!
I stared at it with greedy eyes.
There was yet a lot for
me to conquer-
For I urge to be on the top!
Once was I betrayed by greed,
tried I to start a new beginning!
But human instinct
followed me yet again.
Discovering this blade of
grass, happy I became
for I found something
to feed upon again!
A scavenger I was-
but a much worser one!
I cleared the green grassy-
forests and slayed my
true friends who once
helped me to become
who I’m today!
What did I ever
give them back?
Pain! And nothing else!
Never did I heed to-
their worries and warnings!
Exploit I did
their health and wealth!
And lo! See where I reached today-
Neither friends nor foes
as I’m left here alone!
And now, I get a chance:
the last one, as I see
grassy green grazing lands.
Now is the time to decide:
Should I leave my old habits
and loose my conquests?
Or should I leave my friends forever
and be the greatest conqueror?
Ponder I, over the question
for long hours till I
decide not to loose and
be the best forever and ever!
I stabbed the trees and
slayed the last blade,
set up high rising walls,
palaces, statues and forts!
Never did I realize that
these things created by
me, will lead me to death!
I was as happy as ever…
Here I am ‘on top of the world!’
Victory was short lived..
Defeat did overcome me!
Mother nature had decided
to slay me once and for all!
She sent her angels of death:
the air, water and land!
Swallowed me up they,
into their mighty wide arms!
Realize now I did, my mistake.
plead did I, for her to forgive
Bound in thick silver chains,
she told me to wander around
till I get peace one day-
When all of my kind
Respect and Love her!
Want I freedom, liberty!
“Help me, my people”, I cried
But the men, they all
turned their backs on me!
