Editor's Note
Welcome to the online issue of Prakriti's journal- Ankur!
This year the post of Editor was introduced for the first time and it has been an extremely enlightening one year. It was filled with engaging activities by our society ranging from green business plans to trips to wildlife havens like Bharatpur and Jim Corbett. We also had a regularly updated blog that was used as a platform for sharing information about various ecological issues with students.
For Ankur, Prakriti’s annual journal, we extended the invite for entries including poems/photographs etc. to non members as well and received a great response! There is not one theme that we thought of focussing on, but instead asked for articles through which students can talk about those environmental issues that are close to their heart, or those they would like to draw attention to. Therefore, apart from articles about Prakriti’s yearly activities, you’ll find articles on consumption, eco-psychology, green fashion, vegan makeup, celebrity initiatives, the throwaway culture, poems and a paper written by 2 first year students on why companies should consider going green. There is also ‘Alumna Speak’ wherein our society’s president for the year 2010-11, Preeti, has written an article for the journal. Here on this website however, you'll find a lot more than the printed version ! :D
In our effort to save paper, we have limited hard copies.
Environmental consciousness is one of those first vital steps that can propel you to take action, no matter how big or small. I hope Ankur 2012 will make for an interesting read for you, one that opens up your mind to all that truly deserves attention.
